History
01 · Origin
Västergötland
A small, sturdy, sable-coated Swedish cattle dog that looks a little like a corgi.
02 · Historical role
What it was bred for
Driving and herding cattle, guarding and ratting on farms.
03 · Breed development
How it changed
Its relationship to the Welsh corgis is debated: one dog may have been taken to the other's country in the Viking age. Near extinction in 1942, it was revived by Björn von Rosen and K. G. Zettersten and recognized by the Swedish Kennel Club in 1943 as the Västgötaspets.
