History
01 · Origin
Germany (the Biewer kennel)
A tiny tricolour toy terrier that began as a piebald surprise in a Yorkshire Terrier litter.
02 · Historical role
What it was bred for
A toy companion dog.
03 · Breed development
How it changed
In 1984 two black, white and tan puppies were born to Yorkshire Terriers bred by Werner and Gertrude Biewer, and the couple bred on from them. Americans imported dogs from 2002; DNA tests by Mars Veterinary on samples from the US breed club were reported to separate them from the Yorkshire Terrier. The AKC recognized the breed in 2021.
